BOOKS TO IMPROVE SELF DISCIPLINE
Hello and Welcome
The four books contained in this review are all unique in their teachings of self-discipline. If you are an avid reader you will have experienced when looking to improve a specific life skill or trait the feeling that many writers are simply saying the same thing, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing as repetition is often what we need to overcome ingrained negative patterns. However, these books offer differing self-discipline strategies, ideas and tools which I feel gives a broader view of what is such an important topic in our journey to become the very best versions of ourselves.
Personally, I have studied extensively the keynotes of ‘The Power of Self Discipline’ have read Awaken the Giant 3 times, studied the keynotes of the War of Art and currently half way through this book and recently completed my second reading of The 5 Second Rule.

The Author, Brian Tracy

The Author- STEVEN PRESSFIELD
Steven Pressfield is the best selling author of over 20 novels, a number of them being made into films, notably ‘The Legend of Bagger Vance’ which was adapted for the screen and released in 2000. Directed by Robert Redford and starring Matt Damon, Will Smith and Charlize Theron.
Pressfield was born in the Port of Spain Trinidad in 1943. Since graduating from Duke University in 1965, he has been a US marine, an advertising copywriter, school teacher, truck driver, bartender, oilfield roustabout, a mental hospital attendant and screenwriter. His struggles to earn a living spans 17 years and his story is outlined in War of Art.
The book talks about the many realms of life and includes just about all of us. The book talks about what it means to have goals and dreams and explores the widespread inability to begin and chase after who and what is our calling in life. Even when we do we still have to battle with recurring procrastination to keep going.
In this book, Pressfield uses the term Resistance, to which 95% of the population will be able to relate to regardless of what we are beginning or planning to create in our lives.
He uses the analogy of a writer when he Quotes
‘There’s a secret that real writers know that wannabe writers don’t, and the secret is this: It’s not the writing part that’s hard. What’s hard is sitting down to write. What keeps us from sitting down is Resistance.’
This book will help you identify the major forces holding you back from achieving your dreams. It will then help you overcome these obstacles through awareness of how resistance is holding you back, and give you the knowledge and strength to overcome the enemy in the future.
