What Are Goals?

It’s Important We Differentiate Between A Goal, A Dream And A Wish.

Goals have been something I have known about for years, and in my earlier days, I got as far as writing a few down but that was about it, even though I was convinced they would work.

During my never-ending search for success, I’ve looked for clues. It seems that anyone and everyone who has made a success of themselves has a definite plan, which without exception includes goal setting. But I was never able to get past the first step. Why??

In its simplest form, a goal is a dream with a deadline. The dictionary describes a goal as ‘ A desired result or outcome that a person envisions, plans and commits to achieve. ‘

Meantime Goals not written down, along with a plan could be called wishes, or even better fantasies. So why don’t the majority of people set goals? It doesn’t sound too difficult.

Well, the number one reason people fail to do so is that old companion of ours fear, while we’re talking about fear let’s find out a simple truth of this little demon who seems to hold so much power over us.

Let’s Look At Why Fear Holds Us Back From Setting Our Goals

This specific emotion or feeling of fear comes from an underlying belief system that tells us that we are not really going to be able to achieve our goals. What we might call our ‘self-limiting beliefs’ hold us back more than anything else. Beliefs that are not based on reality or truth.

Let’s Remember That.

That’s all that’s holding most of us back. When we take the time to write down our goals they take on a power of their own.

The most remarkable thing is this, the very act of preparation begins to attract to us, like iron filings to a magnet, opportunities to use that preparation in our lives.

 C’mon..Let’s take That first Step

Let’s decide exactly what we want in every key area of our Lives.

For Example-

Wealth

Family/Friends

Career

Health

Romance

Mind

Spirituality

Hobbies

Fun

The greater clarity we have, the faster we draw into our lives the resources necessary to achieve our goals. So we start off by idealising the perfect life, imagine there are no limitations on what we can do, be or have.

Imagine you have all the money,  friends, and contacts, along with the education and knowledge required to accomplish any goal that you set for yourself. At this stage forget about ‘the how.’ The how is none of your business.

Once you have your current list of Goals divide them into the following time frames.

 

  • Daily  (these will include daily routines and plans to reach all your goals)
  • Short range ( 1 month to 1 year )
  • Mid-Range ( 1 to 3 years  )
  • Medium Range (3 to 5 years )
  • Long range ( 5 to 10 Years )

A SIMPLE CONCISE GOAL SETTING STRATEGY 

    1. Identify Exactly What YOU WANT and Write It Down
    2. Understand Exactly WHY YOU MUST Reach These Goals
    3. List The Challenges YOU WILL Overcome To Absolutely Achieve These Goals
    4. Identify What Knowledge YOU NEED To Attain To Reach These Goals
    5. Identify The People, Groups And Organisations YOU MUST Work With To Achieve These Goals
    6. Develop A PLAN OF ACTION To Ensure The Realisation Of These Goals
    7. Specify A DATE OF ACHIEVEMENT For Each Of These Goals

 

Let’s Get Some Momentum Going – To Overcome Those Limiting Beliefs

Now we have our goals written down we need to build an unshakeable belief in their attainment. Sit with your goals every morning and do the following exercises.

  • Give Gratitude for having reached each one of your goals.
  • Ask Why you are Grateful and Visualise each of your goals with Intense Emotion.
  • Give Thanks for the attainment of each of your goals as if it was already achieved.
  • Review weekly the 7 goal setting steps listed above and continue to plan accordingly.

I guarantee you if you follow the above exercises with ‘no days off’ it won’t be long before you will have built a belief system, that will soon develop into an unshakeable knowing. You will create a confidence, a knowing beyond knowing that they are on their way.

A Certainty will Overcome you that will discipline you with Passion, Enthusiasm, Focus and finally Obsession along with an Unquenchable Desire for their attainment.

The Universe will step aside and anything and everything will come to you while in this ‘state of flow’. Never underestimate the Power of this first step we have talked about.

Challenges will come, we know, but the above mentioned will have made us strong enough to overcome all. Along with Our larger than life list of ‘Whys’ that we’ve created, providing us with enough Strength and Momentum to keep on going. To never throw in the towel!!

Always keep in mind you cannot fail if you never give up !!

LETS SPEED THINGS UP

Your imagination is able to do all that you ask of it in proportion to the degree of attention to it, so what kind of attention are you placing on your desires.

Imagination is more important than knowledge, knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world. Logic will get me from A to B. But imagination will take me everywhere.

Make your future dream a present fact by assuming the feeling of the dream fulfilled. That which I feel myself to be, I am. And I am given that which I am. So live in the feeling of the one I want to be, and that I shall be..if this assumption of who I will become (Who I am already) is persisted in until it becomes my dominant feeling, the attainment of my dream is absolutely inevitable. I must first assume the feeling of my dream fulfilled in all aspects of my life.

When I advance confidently and with the utmost certainty in the direction of my dreams and endeavour to live the life I have imagined, I will meet with success unexpected in common hours. It will chase after you when you place into your imagination what it is you will attract, and begin to feel it.

Please remember that when we have our goal setting strategy in place.  it’s of great importance to remember to enjoy the journey and not make the goal our destination.

  3. Thank you for the great pointers! I have rarely written a goal down. Would that make me achieve things at a faster rate? It’s worth a try.

    I will follow your advice and see what happens. It would be nice to achieve my current goals more quickly than I achieved my earlier life goals. I am slllllowww!

  4. After reading your article I realized I didn’t have any goals. Just existing day to day. But I have come across a great opportunity, so now I have set goals. Each day a new goal I add to the list, knowing someday I will achieve the big goal.

We often shape how we think the future is gonna be based on our past but it doesn’t always work that way. I base my business on the ways you have described in this page and your right.
